MACBA is basically dedicated to the exhibition of works made during the second half of the twentieth century. The idea was to establish a city held several exhibitions of works by artists of the time. The reference collection includes global names such as Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró, Marcel Duchamp, Joaquín Torres-García, Pablo Palenzuela, Antoni Tapies, September Dau, Miquel Barcelo and Roy Lichtenstein. In 1987 he founded the Museum of Contemporary Art Foundation, a private organization, which joined the consortium formed by the two governments.
